CITY OF TEMECULA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT MEMORANDUM TO Old Town Local Review Board FROM: Dale West, Associate Planner DATE: December 12, 2011 SUBJECT: Old Town Trash and Recycling Containers RECOMMENDATIO.N: That the Old Town Local Review Board find the style and design of the proposed waste and recycling containers for Old Town Temecula consistent with street design guidelines of the Old Town Specific Plan and recommend staff bring forward a recommendation to the Redevelopment Agency/Old Town Steering Committee. BACKGROUND: There are currently 42 wooden wine barrel style waste containers located within Old Town along Front Street, Main Street and 6 Street. There are no recycling containers located within Old Town. Staff is proposing to improve the streetscape appearance of Old Town Temecula �by replacing the existing wine barrel style wasfe containers with a more durable square concrete cast,waste containers which would include iconic Old Town artwork, and by adding a similar style recycling containers to the streetscape of Old Town Temecula. Staff is proposing to incorporate the existing medallion artwork (curcently used on the sidewalk street corners of Qld Town Front Street and Main Street) onto the waste confainers to maintain a consistent Old Town theme along the streetscape. The standard recycling logo (three chasing arrows) would be placed on the recycling containers using the same method and styling to maintain consistency. Both the artwork and recycling logo would be cast molded/etched into one or more sides of the waste container and stained to provide contrast between the artwork and the container. Staff is proposing that one waste container and one recycling container be purchased and � placed along Old Town Front Street before replacing all existing waste containers within Old Town.
