Introduction O These guidelines are for use in the selection, application, manufacture and installation of Abbott brand-compliant signage at existing offices, for new construction, office relocation and expansions, and changes in the use of office environments. O ABBOTT CONFIDENTIAL Abbott Signage Guidelines May 31,2005 1 The Abbott Brand identity The Abbott brand is not merely a name and a logo. It defines who we are and how we are perceived by our stakeholders. The true meaning of the Abbott brand is the net impression of all interactions an individual has with Abbott. To drive increased awareness of Abbott's diversified product portfolio, consistent representation of the Abbott brand in all applications, including signage, is critical. O ABBOTT CONRDENTBAL Abbott Signage Guidelines May si,2006 3 The Abbott Core Signature OThe Abbott core signature is unique. It is the proprietary mark of the company and should never be abbreviated or re-created. Only the electronic artwork found in the Sign Toolkit .ZIP file, under Assets and Downloads, Signage, on the Brand Resource Center (http://identity.web. abbott.com) should be used to create the core signature. Core Signature O UFt5 A Promise for Life Core Signature with brandline ASSOTT CONFIDENTIAL Abbott Signage Guidelines May 31,2006 4 The Abbott Brand and Signage • Abbott primary or main identity signage is the first point of contact between the brand and a visitor to an Abbott location. Therefore, it is important that signage, like every other expression of the Abbott brand, is consistent throughout the world. The Abbott core signature is an important component of our brand identity. On signage, the accuracy of the core signature's reproduction, the way it is presented, its relationship to other graphic information, and the location where it is used are all crucial. Y=; - Incorrect usage compromises our brand identity I p ssY} and devalues the message of the sign. A restricted palette of materials that promote the Abbott brand has been selected for use in primary signage. '- There are two main material schemes available in the primary signage system: • A painted aluminum backing panel with individual letterforms applied directly to the face of the panel • Individual letterforms applied directly to the ------------- wall surface There are three main color schemes available in the primary signage system: • Dark bronze-painted backing panel with • brushed silver letterforms • Light bronze-painted backing panel with brushed silver letterforms • White-painted backing panel with brushed L-------- 0 \wl { silver letterforms U Other color schemes may be considered only if warranted by landlord requirements, city ordinances or other restrictions. If considering a non-standard color scheme, please contact Peggy Krueger, corporate Marketing,to discuss options and procedures. ABBOTT CONFIDENTIAL Abbott Signage Guidelines May 31,2006 6 Core Elements: Fonts and Arrows • The Abbott signage font is Helvetica Neue 65. It provides a visual connection to the Abbott print identity system, which uses the Helvetica Neue font family. On primary signage, the Abbott Helvetica Neue 65 font should be used for any directional Helvetica Neue 65 information or other secondary subtext.cannot be used to create the Abbott core signature or line of business(LOB)signatures. AaBbCcDdEe The Abbott core signature or LOB signatures can only be produced using the artwork found in the Sign Toolldt.ZIP file found on the Brand 1234567890 Resource Center s andCd Downloads, Signage. com)under Assets and Downloads,Signage. Subtext is generally directional information, and its relationship with the core signature is strictly controlled. • Arrows specifically designed for use with Abbott the core signature and subtext are the only iconography used on primary signage. They are included in the Sign Toolkit.ZIP file found on the Brand Resource Center(http:/fidentity. Shipping web.abbott.com)under Assets and Downloads, Signage, and cannot be substituted or recreated. The main functions of signage are: wayfinding, identification and brand communication. It is important to assess the purpose of signage when determining its location and selecting the type of sign to be used. The sign type and location will also be affected by local conditions, such as visibility, available space, architectural features, city/municipality regulations, etc. The following sections provide guidance on the selection, sizing and application of Abbott signage. O ASSOTT CONFIDENTIAL 0 Abbott Signage Guidelines May 31,2006 12 Distance Visibility • Distance visibility signage serves as wayfinding, mark of ownership and brand communication. The Abbott sign family contains skyline signs and monument signs, both of which fulfill their functions in different ways. Waylinding —Acts as a landmark to indicate the general direction to the facility. Mark of ownership — Asserts ownership of spaces or buildings which can be seen from a great distance. Brand communication — • Maximum brand exposure to a wide audience. For example, skyline signs can be seen over a distance of many miles and by hundreds of people at any one time. Because these signs are viewed from a distance, they must be large and placed for . maximum visibility. El Abbott Monument Sign Skyline Sign ABBOTT CONFIDENTIAL Abbott Signage Guidelines May st,zoos 14 Site Identification Site identification is mainly served by monument signs and destination signs. Generally placed by the street entrance r to a facility, these signs also w serve to promote the Abbott Sys Y — brand to passing traffic. They must be clearly visible from all approaches. Seen at closer range than distance visibility signage, site identification signage conveys - - to a visitor that the location is Abbott space and identifies • the entrance for wayfinding purposes.
