HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-37 CC Resolution RESOLUTION NO. 2020-37 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMECULA REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF RIVERSIDE TO CONSOLIDATE A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2020 WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE DATE PURSUANT TO SECTION 10403 OF THE ELECTIONS CODE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMECULA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council of the City of Temecula, California, has called a General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, for the purpose of the election of two (2) members of the City Council from Districts 2 and 4, respectively. Section 2. It is desirable that the General Municipal Election be consolidated with the Statewide General Election to be held on the same date and that within the City the precincts, polling places and election officers of the two elections be the same, and that the election be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used for each of the two (2) affected Council positions. Section 3. Pursuant to Sections 10002 and 10403 of the Elections Code of the State of California,the Board of Supervisors of the County of Riverside is hereby requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of a General Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, for the purpose of the election of two (2) members of the City Council of the City of Temecula currently held by Council Members Mike Naggar (District 2) and James Stewart (District 4). Section 4. Except for those services routinely conducted by the City Clerk as the local elections official, delegation is hereby made to the Riverside County Registrar of Voters to conduct said election in accordance with all applicable laws and procedures. The Riverside County Registrar of Voters is hereby authorized, instructed, and directed to canvass the returns of the General Municipal Election and give such further or additional notice of said election, in time, form, and manner as required by law. Section 5. That the Board of Supervisors is requested to issue instructions to the Registrar of Voters of the County of Riverside to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of the consolidated election. Section 6. In all particulars not recited in this resolution, the General Municipal Election shall be held and conducted as provided by law for holding consolidated municipal elections. The consolidated election shall be held and conducted in the manner prescribed in Elections Code Section 10418. Section 7. The City of Temecula recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County,by reason of this consolidation,and agrees to reimburse the County for such additional costs. Section 8. The City Clerk is hereby directed to file a certified copy of this Resolution with the Board of Supervisors and Registrar of Voters of the County of Riverside. Section 9. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution. PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Temecula this 9th day of June, 2020.
